Comparative Health Systems

Course Description

This course is a five-week course held in London, UK during the summer term. Students will attend lectures led by Emory professors and other UK-based guest speakers while staying near University City of London. The course will include organized field trips and cultural events.  

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand the organization and delivery of health care services in the United States and Great Britain.  
  2. Identify various issues and problems facing the U.S. and U.K. systems as they evolve to meet the growing needs of their populations; particularly understanding the interrelation between cost, access, and quality.
  3. Explore British citizens’ attitudes towards the NHS through an original survey research project.
  4. Apply the experiential learning that occurs in field trips to the theoretical and policy issues in the everyday world of health care delivery.
